It is always the same. We never
miss something until it
is going on the block.
Unfortunately we also keep only the
good times we have known at a place
like St Bonnies in a neighborhood
like the Three Fairmounts, mostly
South Fairmount. But that is
probably a good thing.
Those children who attended
the school and who
suffered the trials and tribulation
of growing up in that
environment
are different from their
adult counterparts. The kid part
suffered though the bad days and
the adult remembers the good
ones. Whether the adult
admits it or not, there were bad
things as well as good.
The children shared places like
Hellman's little store and post
office across from the church,
Peterson's ice cream parlor at Van
Hart and Queen City, serving
and singing, daily prayer
and allegiance to the flag,
the lavish church ceremonies at
Easter and Christmas, the dreaded
ruler, classes all taught by the
same nun in the same room,
recess and dismissal, the departure
routes of West and West Central and
East and East Central, home work
and recitation, those exams and
after school play.
It is very possible that through
the web site and the thought
sharing of many old residents,
that we can keep the memories of St
Bonnies alive and well, even though
the old buildings might be
gone.
